After a rough week where the Alpines went 0-3 the team turned it around last night with a 4-3 walk-off win at home against the Moncton Fisher Cats. In the bottom of the 7th with the score tied, bases loaded and two out Peter Shaw singled through the left side on the first pitch he saw to score Ryan Owens for the winning run. Owens got the rally going with a two out double off the wall which was followed by an intentional walk to Mark Phillips. Ronnie Barton worked a tough count to get a walk of his own before Shaw came to the plate to deliver the game winning hit. After the visiting Moncton team grabbed quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first it was Shaw who took care of the Alpines response with a two run single in the bottom half of the frame. Justin McQuade drove in the other run with a single in the fourth to give the home team a 3-2 lead at the time before the Fisher Cats tied the game in the top of the seventh.
Brooks Saunders pitched a complete game for the win, allowing only one earned run, seven hits, walking one and striking out three. Glenn Marks, in relief of started Justin Cormier. took the loss for Moncton.
This was the first game in the start of a very busy weekend for the Alpines. Today they host the Charlottetown Islanders for a double-header starting at 1 PM and travel to the island tomorrow to return the favor.
