The Alpines found out last night why the Fredericton Royals imported pitcher Shane Kraemer (2-0) all the way from British Columbia. Kraemer silenced the home town bats with a 1 run, 4 hit and 12 strikeout performance over 5 2/3 innings for his second win of the young season and helping the Royals walk away with a 6-1 win. Alpines starter Sherman Yeo (0-1) had a strong outing of his own in a losing effort, pitching 5 innings and allowing five hits and only two earned runs while striking out eight.
Newcomer Mark Phillips had two of the Alpines hits, a ground rule double in the second inning and an RBI single in the sixth that chased Kraemer from the game. The Alpines had the bases loaded at the time but Fredericton reliever Joel Violette closed the door on the rally.
The Alpines fall to 2-3 whioch is good enough for third place. Fredericton sits in last place at 1-3. Fredericton had won their first three games buit were awarded losses after it was ruled they had an ineligible player in their lineup. The player in question was not in the Royals lineup last night.
